"We aim to make this area a nerve centre that is vital to the economic vitality of the Saguenay-Lac St Jean Region"
The Quebec Premier and MNA for Roberval, Philippe Couillard, confirmed Monday morning the creation of the port industrial complex in ??Saguenay. This was an official confirmation since the port authorities had already been informed that Saguenay was one of the 16 sites in Quebec where these industrial parks would be set up.
"Today's announcement is a follow-up to the work undertaken at the Saguenay-Lac Saint Jean Regional Economic Summit, where the idea of ??creating a port industrial complex in Saguenay was put forward. Boosting Saguenay's port activities means improving our region’s competitive position and, consequently, Quebec's position on the world stage. We aim to make this port industrial complex a nerve centre that is vital to the economic vitality of the Saguenay-Lac Saint Jean region by increasing the number of business opportunities and creating jobs," said the Premier.
Under this agreement, the signing of which led to the formation of a local committee comprising the City of Saguenay, the Saguenay Port Authority and Promotion Saguenay as well as the departments and agencies concerned, the government will fund up to 70% of the expenses associated with the implementation of the related development plan, up to a maximum of $125,000. The terms of reference of this local committee include defining the limits of the port industrial complex and preparing an industrial development plan including, among other things, the identification of potential markets and opportunities for attracting investments, all in keeping with the principles of sustainable development.
