MARITIME SERVICES

Grande-Anse Marine Terminal

The Port of Saguenay is located in Grande-Anse, in the La Baie borough, and is made up of a sector dedicated to maritime operations, an intermodal sector combining rail service and access to national highways as well as a vast industrial-port zone. The Grande-Anse marine terminal, adjacent to Quai-Marcel-Dionne, is dedicated to the reception, shipment and transhipment of general and specialized cargo, solid bulk and liquid bulk. It is located on an exceptional navigation corridor, the Saguenay River, more precisely 54 nautical miles from the confluence of the river and the St. Lawrence River. This strategic position gives it direct access to northern Quebec as well as to major international markets. Driven by the desire to develop multi-user facilities that will meet the needs of the local industry, the SPA is planning improvements to Quai-Marcel-Dionne in order to increase its load-bearing capacity, add a berth and acquire a ramp for rolling stock.

RAIL SERVICES

Rail service
Thanks to this infrastructure, the Grande-Anse Maritime Terminal confirms its strategic positioning on a national scale, among other things with its industrial-port zone (IPZ) of more than 10,000,000 m2, its direct access to the national highway network and its deep water facilities accessible year-round.

Port of Saguenay has a rail service connecting the port to the national rail network. In fact, being the only port site connected to the national rail network AND capable of accommodating ships of 100,000 tons (with a potential to accommodate ships of 200,000 tons) year-round, Port of Saguenay represents a key component for the transport of medium and large volumes.

The rail terminal is located in the center of the industrial-port zone(IPZ) of Saguenay, which allows the industry not only to transport volume, but also to set up processing companies that will be competitive and that will stand out in the world market.

Description of railway installations

The Port of Saguenay has a rail service, a strategic infrastructure directly linking the industrial-port zone of Saguenay to the national rail network. This direct access to western Canada and the heart of North America allows a large quantity of goods to transit efficiently through the Saguenay maritime corridor. The Port of Saguenay thus became the most easterly port in Quebec to be directly connected to the North American rail network.

The main characteristics of the railway installations are:

  • Nearly 10,000 feet of storage lanes
  • Rail loading ramp providing access to a hangar of more than 70,000 sq. ft.
  • Access to over 2,500,000 sq. ft. outdoor storage with high load-bearing, including a paved area of over 70,000 sq. ft.
  • installations located in an industrial environment, far from densely populated areas
  • Direct access to port facilities
  • Direct access to the national highway network
